Beginning
From the beginning Splash Damage, Enemy Territory QUAKE Wars developer, was focusing on public ranked server adjustments. In other words game was balanced for 24 players which consists usually from bunch of friends that want to frag in the evening after work - they don't have to be high skilled players. The task was completed.
Of course from the beginning there was a group of players that wanted to play ETQW in leagues, so they expected to see modifications of game that will fulfill their needs. Problem was that Splash Damage had other priority in that time and players where whining and moaning.
Players moans
Why moans? Because game rules and adjustments for ranked servers that were for 24 players, were not sufficient for 6on6 play. Players wanted changes where lucky shots, randomness was minimal, and real aim was important. Besides, many of them expected that ETQW will be a reskin of ET, which is completely wrong, cause those games are completely different from the base. Netherless players were willing to see stuff they knew in ETPro to be included in ETQWPro - of course with care on game differencies.
SDK Release and 1.4 patch
Then Splash Damage released ETQW SDK in beta version that gave coders opportunity to create custom mods. Of course Promod team was already created that would fulfill their dream - create mod for a game that would suit professional, league gaming, aiming at matches 4on4 and 6on6.
Af far as I rember first internal release was about one week after SDK beta release, later there were updates that would fix any problems discovered in game. Among other mods that popped out was Pigmod - vanilla with restrictions.
Then we was given ETQW 1.4 patch, introducing some gameplay changes. Later on full SDK was released.
First ETQWPro release
2008.02.01 - first ETQWPro version was released on public, two weeks after final SDK release. Moreover, 10 days later ETQWPro 003 was announced to the public.
Official mod
After 1.4 patch, Splash Damage announced that they will release Official Competition Mod that will allow gamers to control restrictions in game as needed. In addition they promised to release source code of that mod, so other mod developers could easily implement certain features without a hassle of inventing the wheel for the n-th time.
One day, the Competition mod was released in beta stage, as long as patch 1.5 beta for tests. After some time Pigmod development ceased, cause SD would implement features they were doing from the beginning, so pigmods work was rahter pointless.
In the effect one coder moved from Piugmod to the ETQWPro mod team, as stated officially here.
Current changes
Currently ETQWPro is undergoing major cvar name changes, fixing some found issues, adding the most important new features.
